The Highly Skilled Migrants Programme (HSMP) enables a person to work for an employer in the UK or to be self-employed. The person working for an employer is not required to have a fixed job offer or other work before they arrive in the UK.
Fees. Applicants under HSMP are free to change employers when they wish, and to work as consultants or start up their own business.
Qualifying for Highly Skilled status depends on points awarded for a number of attributes.
Work permit
There are a number of key criteria to fulfil in order to successfully apply for a work permit.
the employer must be established and trading, or about to become operational in the UK, either as a partnership, a company or as a registered branch of an overseas company.

work permits are normally only issued to applicants who have either a degree level qualification or high level or specialist skills. These should have been acquired through doing the type of job for which the permit is sought for at least three years.
